Hamilton Island, with its long and rich sailing history, is the home of AUDI Hamilton Island Race Week - Australia's largest offshore sailing regatta. In the heart of the Whitsunday Islands on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef, there is no better base for exploring one of the World's greatest sailing regions.
Hamilton Island owner Bob Oatley and famed yachtsman Iain Murray have together created the Hamilton Island Yacht Club, providing first-class facilities for Australian and international guests. Fast becoming an international icon, Walter Barda's outstanding architectural design is a celebration of marine lifestyle. Silhouettes of full sails inspired the leaves of the copper roof and expansive cantilevered terraces.
"The passion of Bob and Iain's connections with sailing and exemplary, cutting edge boat design pushed the imaginative possibilities of the project for me. I saw an opportunity to go for a celebration of tropical marine life and boat form, and the drama of yachts taking on the natural forces of wind and water" - Walter Barda
The Hamilton Island Yacht Club is the centre of boating for all the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef, and will further define Hamilton Island as an Australian and international boating capital.
Adjacent to the Hamilton Island Yacht Club is the Hamilton Island marina, the aquatic hub for private and charter boats exploring the Great Barrier Reef. The marina caters for every type of vessel up to 42 metres with first-class facilities, while the 216 berths and 11 moorings are all well protected from unfavourable weather. Many cruising yachtsmen and super yacht owners base themselves at the marina while they explore the islands of the Whitsunday Passage.
